The name of Cove came from Forest Cove, which was used to describe the area.  Cove sits at the base of Mt Fanny on a gradual slope that descends to the Valley floor.  Mt Fanny was named after Fannie Cowles, whose family settled here in 1862.  They also were the first ones to climb up to the top of Mt Fanny, which has an elevation of 7,132 feet.  The residents here have some of the best views of the Grande Ronde Valley.  They also are protected from the winter wind that sometimes can be very strong in the winter.  Cove is known for its Cherry orchards.  Cove is also home to the Cove Hot Springs swimming pool.  There are also several church camps in the area as well.  Once you leave the city limits on the upper slope, you will find numerous homes on small acreages.  This area of Union County has the most potential of rural homes because of the county zoning for small acreages.  Cove is home to a small convenient store, restaurants, post office and numerous churches.
