DSC_0960 La Grande, a community in Union County with a population of about 12,500 in Union county and is home to the County Seat.  La Grande Main Street was re-organized in 2008 and has been making many improvements to its downtown.  The façade program has been the stimulus for property owners to make many improvements to their buildings which has made a significant impact to making downtown more inviting for business owners relocating to downtown.  La Grande is also home to the Eastern Oregon University. The University provides the community with diversity of Arts, Theater, Science and a multitude of sporting events. Eastern Oregon University also provides a key economic stability for Union County.  The community also in the process of bring back the Liberty Theater which would provide the opportunity for drama plays, music and other events for the public. The Grande Ronde Hospital offers quality care service and is located at the base of the sloping mountain range that has great views of the valley floor.  Some of the major employers in Union Counter are Boise Cascade, a wood products company, who is the largest employer in Union County. City of Pendleton has a rich history in Eastern Oregon for agriculture, ranching, the Pendleton Round Up Rodeo and the Confederated Tribe of the Umatilla Indians.  Halfway, Oregon - Halfway is located on the South of the Wallowa Mountains and is nestled in the beautiful Pine Valley. Pine Creek weaves it’s way through the small valley to the Snake River.  Halfway is the gateway to the Snake River Canyon.  Haines, Oregon - Haines, established in 1884, is located about 8 miles South of Baker City. It is said that there is gold in the streets in Haines. Israel David Haines owned over a thousand acres and he platted out a portion of his property for the new community. The railroad company at that time built a small loading facility and used it as a depot.
 Imnaha, Oregon - Imnaha, a beautiful rural area that is located in the far eastern section of Wallowa County. The town of Imnaha is named after the river that flows from the Wallowa Mountains to Snake River. The Snake River is known to have one of the deepest river gorges on the continent. Imnaha came from William Clark who used the word from the map that was issued from the original Lewis and Clark journals in 1814, in the form Innahar.
